Silk is probably in our top three favorite types of fabric, falling just under denim and just above leather. It’s soft, shiny, and rich. Hell, it’s everything you’re supposed to want your hair to feel like if this were an ad for Pantene. So what’s the problem? Well, there is none, so long as the temperature stays somewhere between a perfect 67 – 73 degrees; that sort of state of “being,” where one doesn’t seem to feel anything in regards to the weather. Once the heat tips the scale above 73, you’ll feel the heat in a silk button down. The small beads of man-made condensation build slowly at first, settling in the crook of your armpit or in a small line along your upper-lip. And before you’ve walked even 6 minutes in that silk button down, you feel the beads fall to make that fateful ring between your underarm and your shoulder. You have sweat marks, my friend, and you always will in a silk button down when the temperature rises above 73 degrees. But that doesn’t mean you have to break up with silk over the summer, like someone you picked up during cuffing season only to see his real face once the glow of your computer screen is gone and the natural light of the outside world flashes upon him. No, instead, let us present to you the off-the-shoulder silk top. This summer silk let’s your collarbone, shoulders, and neck BREATHE in the heat, unlike the concealing button down. Pair it with black cropped pants for the office or denim cutoffs for drinks with friends after. Find you a shirt that can do both and shop the look below. XX – A
